Police continue manhunt for three gunmen

Three gunmen who shot and killed two policemen while responding to a hijacking in Vereeniging, are still at large.  Gauteng police say the hijackers opened fire on the officers while responding to a house robbery in Solan Park.

The warrant officer and constable died on the scene. Police are still searching for the suspects and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

It brings to three the number of officers shot in Gauteng last week alone.

What started as a routine patrol like so many others in this quiet neigbourhood ended in an ambush – that cost two officers their lives.

Minutes earlier, Jerry Govender and his family, were accosted in their driveway. Three armed men took them inside their house and ransacked it.

The men escaped with household goods, two R5 rifles and 9mm pistols.  They abandoned the police van and hijacked another vehicle.  Police are still searching for them – and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
